Weight Watchers® Weight Loss Program
The Weight Watchers® weight loss program is definitely one of the few programs that have stood the test of time. We believe that this program has definitely graduated from the category of "fad diet". Their support infrastructure and supplement network is large and varied. However, their success seems to come in waves, not unlike the fad diets. Every year you will see interest slide in programs like Weight Watchers® as new "fads" come on the scene. They always seem to gain interest again though as these "fad diets" begin to lose public interest. The idea behind Weight Watchers® is to present a goal which is well within reach of participants. Weight Watchers® call this goal the 10% difference. This means that the dieter calculates 10% of their current weight and that becomes their first goal. Once this goal is reached, the dieter then calculates 10% of their weight again until the total desired weight is lost. The main principle to understand is that while losing 10% of your current weight is not the end goal, it is very satisfying to the dieter when she loses a dress size, or he can bring his belt in a notch. Now this is perhaps an oversimplification of their system since they do have a great deal of support and tools that are used to get you over those humps. Is Weight Watchers Healthy?There are many controversies surrounding the weight loss community regarding the "healthiness" of this diet or that one. Many of the "Low Carb" diets are said to be healthy only to find out later, whether by parties that may have conflicting interests or not, that they may not be as healthy as first believed. It is believed that the Weight Watchers® weight loss program is one of the healthier programs around. The reason for this is because the weight loss is often (seemingly) slow, and you are not restricted by rules surrounding fat, calories, or carbs. Weight Watchers® has two systems to choose from: The Flex Plan®, and the Core Plan®. The Flex Plan® allows you to eat whatever you want, whenever you want but you only have a certain predefined number of points on any given day. The Core Plan seems to be more restrictive by limiting which foods you eat, although you still enjoy a balanced diet. Weight Watchers® Point SystemThe point system is set up so that you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want. Each day you calculate how many points you can have on that day and then you subtract the food's points you eat from that total throughout the day. When your points are gone, you're done eating for that day. The Weight Watchers® point system is a proprietary, patented formula which can allow you to figure out the points of any food, as long as you can determine how many grams of fat, calories, and fiber are in the food. Weight Watchers® Positive NegativesMany people love weight watchers because of the meetings and the support system. Weight Watchers® has offline meetings as well as online areas to receive any support you may need. This turns out to be a double edged sword. As many people as there are that love the meetings, there are many more that do not. There have been many accounts from people complaining about the pressure and sometimes almost cult like structures of these meetings. We believe that this is mostly due to a few well publicized incidents, and that most of these groups probably consist of very normal, caring people. That being said, we also understand how sharing the successes and failures of the week with other Weight Watchers® members could be unnerving, which results in many people just opting out of these types of meetings altogether. In summary, Weight Watchers® is most likely here to stay. We believe that out of the many diets out there Weight Watchers® is a healthy diet and worth looking into.
